While trying to get a shot of feeding pelicans at Front Street Park in Melbourne, FL, I managed to get this shot as the egret flew past, under a dock and into some bushes where, I guess, it roosts for the night.
The bird looks completely different from this angle. Usually you see it from below and its long neck is visible in a U shape, hanging like a rudder, under the bird. Here you can see the crest is flowing back over the shoulders to create an aerodynamic profile.
I have always love taking photos. I purchased my first Nikon in 1980 and started shooting everything that caught my eye. I spent many years in Chicago shooting LGBT nightlife and events for various publications and the bulk of those (about 5000 negatives) are now part of the permanent collection of the Chicago History Museum. For seven years I published the local LGBT entertainment magazine in east central, coastal, Florida, which provided the opportunity to take all kinds of photos for the publication. And the abundant wildlife in the area has also been a delight to photograph. Now I am back in the northeast where there are a whole different set of landscapes and animals to photograph.
